Shipworms are a type of saltwater clam, and believe it or not they like the flavor of your salty dock and seawall pilings. Ever hopped into the water off your dock or swum near a pier? These worms burrow into your wood and concrete and create the little holes you may have noticed. Over time, if enough holes are made, your pilings can snap like a twig.
