Hull Cleaning, Dock & Seawall Divers in Bay Harbor Islands, FL

The town has Biscayne Bay to the north and west, Indian Creek to the east across from Bal Harbour and Surfside, and Indian Creek Lake to the south across from Indian Creek Village. The Intracoastal channel runs past the town, and the Broad Causeway, opened in 1951, links it to North Miami; the water around the causeway bridge is an idle-speed, no-wake zone, and boaters get straight onto the Meloy Channel there.

All of that is warm salt water. A boat behind a West Island house or under an East Island condo sits still for most of the week, so props, shafts and rudders grow hard barnacles and the waterline grows an algae band. Bakers Haulover Inlet, an idle-speed, no-wake zone itself, is the nearest way to the ocean, and boats that run it every weekend still come home to growth. ZIP 33154 covers both islands.

There is no marina inside the town, so our work here is entirely at private docks and condo docks: the single-family homes along the West Island (originally platted as Broadview), the waterfront condos on the East Island, and the Indian Creek side facing Bal Harbour. Nearby, Haulover Park's Bill Bird Marina, the county facility by the inlet with 152 wet slips for boats from 35 to 120 feet and ramps open around the clock, is a regular stop too.

Both islands were mangrove islands filled for development, so the shoreline is seawall and the docks stand on pilings driven into fill. Oysters build up heavily on the Indian Creek side, and they eat wooden pilings while hiding the damage. We clean pilings without abrasives, wrap the ones worth saving in UV-stabilized HDPE with 316 stainless nails, and sleeve the worn ones with Snap Jackets. We have not found a town seawall ordinance, so seawall work here is about condition and lender documentation: $250 for a home, $350 for an East Island building.
