The Loxahatchee has been a National Wild and Scenic River since 1985, and it runs from freshwater creeks into a brackish estuary that gets saltier as incoming tides mix in from the inlet: above 30 parts per thousand just seaward of the inlet, 11 to 25 across most of the estuary, and below 0.1 in the upper Northwest Fork. Where your dock sits on that gradient decides what grows on your hull and how fast your zincs wear, which is why the diver records both every month rather than guessing.

The inlet is natural, with tides of about 2 to 3 feet, jetties built in 1922 and dredging that has kept it open since it was closed during the war years of 1942 to 1947. The waters around it, from the SR 707 bridge to the Indiantown Road bridge, are a year-round idle-speed zone outside the channel; the Loxahatchee has a 300-foot shoreline slow zone plus seasonal slow speed, and the backwaters of Lake Worth Creek, including Admirals Cove, are slow. Slow water is where growth stays put.

Admirals Cove, west of the Intracoastal, is a gated club community of about 975 acres with roughly 6 miles of waterways and more than 500 private docks, and it is our largest single stop in Jupiter. Jupiter Harbour, a gated marina community on North US-1 where the inlet meets the Intracoastal, is the other. Burt Reynolds Park on North US-1 has 2,000 feet of Intracoastal frontage, six ramps (the west-side ramps open around the clock) and county day-use slips; DuBois Park at the inlet's south jetty and Waterway Park have county slips and a ramp too. Admirals Cove and Loxahatchee docks sit in slow, brackish water where oysters and shipworms both thrive, and we clean their pilings without pickaxes or chisels before inspecting them bare. We have not researched a Jupiter seawall ordinance, so a seawall inspection here is about the wall's condition and the lender-required documentation a sale needs: $250 for a home, $350 for a multi-family or commercial property, cleaned first, with cracks filled all the way through with custom cement tubes.
