Hull Cleaning, Dock & Seawall Divers in Deerfield Beach, FL

The Hillsboro Canal, which everyone here calls the Hillsboro River, forms the city's northern boundary with about 10 navigable miles, and the city lists its dredging project as completed. Where it meets the Intracoastal sits Deerfield Island Park, the only island park in Broward, reachable only by boat or by the free weekend shuttle from Sullivan Park; it is a state Critical Wildlife Area for gopher tortoises. The waters around the park and the canal are a year-round manatee slow-speed zone, and the Intracoastal north to the Palm Beach line is seasonal slow from mid-November through March.

Sullivan Park on Riverview Road, on the Intracoastal at Hillsboro Boulevard, has an 11-slip public marina and a kayak launch, and the Hillsboro Boulevard bridge crosses the Intracoastal there. The city counts 17 bridges, most of them on tidal water. Slow water around the island and the river means nothing scrubs a hull; the diver does, every 30 days.

The Cove runs from the Intracoastal to US-1 and from Hillsboro Boulevard south to the Lighthouse Point line, with finger canals off the Intracoastal and no fixed bridges to either the Boca Raton or the Hillsboro inlet. That makes it the neighborhood where most of our Deerfield Beach hull, dock and seawall work happens, all of it at private docks in ZIP 33441. The Kingfisher Canal, where the city installed aerators and a pollution-control device, is part of the same canal system.

Deerfield's stormwater master plan recommends condition surveys of seawalls and outfalls every 3 to 5 years, after severe storms and after reports of local flooding, and the city has committed to adopt Broward County's standard of tidal flood barriers at least 5.0 feet NAVD88. We recommend sooner than the plan: a cleaning and inspection every 1–2 years, because oyster growth hides cracks. The inspection is $250 for a home and $350 for a multi-family or commercial property, includes lender-required documentation, and cracks are filled all the way through with custom cement tubes.
